  • This week Real Vision’s Jamie McDonald uses best in class data to tackle the question of why US yields continue to rise despite deteriorating economic conditions. Camera guy should raise the power on the beauty lamp and stop up the camera to darken the background. Then turn on the under counter lights to create some nice background incandescent glow. One way to make this environment look great with little cost.

    His conclusion was so confusing..
"Despite all the gloom and doom, buyers are ready to buy and fewer people see further drawdowns" but that's a warning sign??
So despite all the gloom and doom, there should be doom and gloom? huh?
Are the Japanese buying or not?

Yields are driven by fundamentals, at least it started that way, but it has been exacerbated by Japanese need for easing. As rates continue to rise globally, remember this means capital outflows rise in Japan to more attractive rates. It's very circular as he stated... however, only way to put a stop to rising US yields is if the FED pauses or we see material weakness in the employment numbers. However, leading indicators are pointing to a severe downturn while investors are piling into equities like we will avoid a recession, despite "sentiment" being negative, so the positioning doesn't reflect that. It's bad because once a recession becomes more and more apparent those very same inflows will come right back out.
